A Pickering's Gin Jolly

Assembly George Square Theatre (Venue 8)

Monday 7th August 16.00

A gin tour for the DarkChat Ladies has become something of an Edinburgh Fringe tradition (OK, we started last year).  For our 2017 gin experience, we chose 'A Pickering's Gin Jolly' at Summerhall Distillery.  This proved an excellent decision.

The tour starts with a P&T, of course, in Summerhall Courtyard and we then toured the distillery.  Our guide was engaging

with a thorough knowledge of her subject, a great sense of humour and a love of Pickering's gin.

We learned some of the colourful history of gin and how it is produced. Both premises and equipment are quirky with some

ingenious recyling and Heath Robinson style solutions to the challenges posed when a weekend hobby suddenly becomes

a successful business.

There were several gins to be sampled, all different and all delicious.  While one DarkChatter was buying a liquid souvenir,

we resolved, as our guide had suggested, to be more adventurous and even dispense with mixers on occasion.

Eventually, we tottered back out into the sunshine  and, for the second year running, found that time had stopped working

properly and we had to run to the next show.

A Pickering's Gin Jolly is at Summerhall (Venue 26)

until August 27th (not Tuesdays)
