Although we were not particularly familiar with the horror genre at the fringe nor H P Lovecraft, we came across Providence
and decided that we should branch out in our fringe viewing.
The show is a well told story of horror/ comedy and begins with an amusing use of sounds, facial expressions and quirkiness
to push us off into an hour of the slightly but magnificently weird. It is performed at the Assembly Rooms but outside on
George Street in a shipping container and with the heavy rain beating down yesterday afternoon, this added to the already
extravagant sound effects and dark, smoky atmosphere on set.
Dominic Allen and Simon Maeder are outstanding in their quick portrayal of H P Lovecraft's life and their hilariously ingenious
props add amusement and appeal to anyone looking for an hour of offbeat entertainment.
The brilliance of their acting has introduced us well to Lovecraft and to this genre and we will be looking out for Allen and Maeder in Edinburgh in 2019.
Providence is at Assembly Rooms (Front Room) until August 25th
