For us one of the joys of the Edinburgh Fringe festival is the variety of shows on offer. The same can be said of the Edinburgh previews in Cardiff this year.
Having thoroughly enjoyed the hysterically funny “Service” it was time to change tack and try some “serious” theatre. I have been aware of “Mr & Mrs Clark” for some time but have never previously seen any of their productions (my loss).
This is actually a one-man show, dealing with the level of fear we are subjected to from an early age to the
present day. As the performer (Gareth Clark) is a similar age to ourselves we could immediately relate to every
reference mentioned & shown. This sounds a little heavy, yet in the hands of Mr Clark & director Agnieska
Blonska the subject matter is treated sensitively and with great humour.
There is even a little audience participation where I revealed my salary & could show my intense general
knowledge by correctly stating that Richard Fairbrass is the lead singer of “Right Said Fred”.
It never fails to impress me how much unheralded talent there is around. Fear not, dear reader, it is my duty to
uncover hidden gems and shout it from the rooftops. So, anyone attending the Edinburgh festival next month
and wanting to see something different go & see “F.E.A.R,” I doubt you will see anything like it. (If you do, let
(FEAR) is playing at ZOO (Venue 124) throughout the Fringe at 19.10 (check listings for exact dates)
